Is It Medical or Vision?

Who Do We Bill, and Why

One of the most debated and perplexing problems faced in many optometry offices today is the question of how to address the "vision" versus "medical" visit, and, in particular, the billing process.

In my office we have begun using a form that helps our patients understand the difference between a "vision care" visit and a "medical care" visit, and why one form of insurance must be billed instead of the other. All patients coming for an "exam" receive this form. It was created based on a similar form by Steven Nelson, O.D., modified by myself.
